The classic vintage overdrive circuit features a 1+1 dual-channel design—usable individually or in series. You can adjust and switch between warm overdrive, sharp crunch, and vintage distortion.
- B Side Sound (set Low Gain) leans more towards a warm tone, similar to a boost pedal.
- When both A and B channels are activated simultaneously, it delivers a “dual-channel stacked vintage distortion” effect.
- Tip: adjusting from low to high gain to audition different tonal changes.
- Separate Limit Clip Switch and Feedback Clip Switch
- You can obtain 3 distinct tones: overdrive, distortion and CRUNCH—utilize Channel B to boost A.

1.Adjust from low to high gain knob to find optimal tone rather than blindly pursuing the maximum. It may easily lead to background noise. This is not a problem with pedal, but a common knowledge related to background noise. Solutions: Reduce guitar's own gain (pickups) or directly turn down Gain knob
2.If guitarists prefer gain stacked, it is suggested to use independent, well-shielded power supply and cables; Also set Channel B to low gain as a boost or add a noise gate

The R-20 features two independent overdrive channels with Volume, Gain, and Tone knobs that allow you to set different tone and gain levels for each channel. You can use one channel alone or both in series to create a wide variety of tonal variations
Can the R-20 be used with two channels in series?
Yes, you can connect two channels in series and use the first channel as a base tone and the second channel with more gain for heavier distortion.
If you test Channels A and B individually, the tone exhibits low gain rather than very high.
Can I emulate classic rock and metal tones?
Yes, the R-20 can emulate a wide range of classic rock and metal distortion tones, which is especially suitable for players who are looking for vintage tones and hard rock distortion.
What if it makes noise when I use it?
The probability that noise is caused by use of incorrect power supply or speakers, it is recommended to use with JOYO's effects charger or professional power supply JOYO JP-05.
If background noise is from gain, you can directly turn down Gain knob.
